Angel's Envy - Louisville Based Luxury Whiskey
Angel’s Envy is a Louisville-based distiller that produces finished whiskeys. Founded in 2010, Angel’s Envy was among the first American whiskey producers to employ a secondary finishing process – a technique long used in Scotch production (and one that many American distillers have now tried their hands at in the years since) – broadly across its portfolio. It continues to be a leader in this space, as each of its award-winning whiskeys are finished in hand-selected barrels to add a distinct layer of flavor and complexity to the whiskey. The Angel’s Envy team continues to produce several highly acclaimed core offerings as well as a variety of innovative, special releases. Its whiskeys have been called “one of the world’s top spirits,” “the best American whiskey” and “one of the best bourbons of the 21st century.”
Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Finished in Port Wine Barrels
The core offering from the distiller, Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels begins as a Kentucky Straight bourbon aged for four to six years in new white oak barrels. The team then finishes the bourbon for up to six additional months in Port casks made from French oak, imported directly from the Douro region of Portugal. The Angel’s Envy team artfully blends the product, both before the secondary finishing process and after, to ensure an exacting taste profile – tasting notes include ripe fruit, vanilla, maple syrup, toast and bitter chocolate. It clocks in at 86.6-proof and has won several notable awards this year, including a Gold medal at the highly respected San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Angel’s Envy 2022 Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Each year, as part of the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength program, the Angel’s Envy team selects noteworthy barrels from its rickhouses to put through an extended finishing process in port wine barrels from Portugal. These special barrels bring forward distinct characteristics in the whiskey, giving each edition of Angel’s Envy Cask Strength a unique nose, palate and finish. This year’s release, which will hit shelves on November 1, marks the eleventh installment in the Cask Strength program. At 119.8-proof, it offers hints of leather, brown sugar, orange and caramel on the nose, followed by apples, caramel, and brown sugar on the palate. The creaminess on the palate pairs with the orange from the nose to give a creamsicle richness. The release is sold in a carved wooden collectors box.
