Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club
Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club re-opens to members with new and improved amenities and infrastructure after construction stemming from Hurricane Dorian.
Spread over 600 acres on Great Guana Cay, Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club has been a mainstay for its 300-plus member families, offering access to an exclusive collection of amenities found nowhere else in the Bahamas. From barefoot beachside golf and ocean excursions like swimming with sharks and stingrays to its farm-to-table culinary program, the private members-only community has been designed with families of all ages in mind.
Marina
With a 12-and-a-half-foot clearance at mean low tide, the 33-acre, 200-slip, full-service, deep-water marina allows vessels up to 250 feet in length to safely navigate the facility – arriving at the property can be as simple as easing into your slip. Upon arrival, enjoy a specialty Casamigos cocktail while traveling via golf cart to clear customs in under 10 minutes. On the docks, members enjoy a full array of services and amenities in the Marina Village, including the Fitness Center, Market deli-style restaurant, BLU Boutique and the Conch Shack bar, and dock services like potable water, a fish-cleaning station, power, full internet and cable and security.
Marina Village
Whether by yacht or in residence, those staying in the lively Marina Village are provided with a warm and welcoming environment, which serves as both a social hub and a provisioning site. The neighborhood offers: the Conch Shack, serving as a central gathering place with a waterfront bar and grill; the Market for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as prepared foods and light provisions; BLU Boutique to peruse resort wear and gifts for the whole family; a fitness center; the Discovery Design Center, which serves as a hub for new owners designing their new island home; and Member Services, a dedicated team available to take care of all member needs.
Golf
No shoes, no shirt, just golf. The Baker’s Bay golf course is famous for “barefoot golf,” where players enjoy 72 course plays slightly more than 7,327 yards from the back tees and features dramatic water views from 12 of the 18 holes. During a round, stop by the Sip Sip for a quick bite to eat, cool off with a dip in the Sea of Abaco after hole 8 and enjoy a chilled tequila with tacos at the Casamigos Tequila Bar.
Outdoor Pursuits
Whatever your pleasure – land or sea – the Outdoor Pursuits team is here to help make the most of your stay at Baker’s Bay. The Outdoor Pursuits concierge recreation team are an integral part of the Baker’s Bay lifestyle, providing guided activities for the entire family at every skill level. These professionals will work with you to explore your interests and then develop an itinerary, make all necessary arrangements and often serve as your personal guide. Activities include sport and bottom fishing, spear fishing, free diving, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, island hopping, kite surfing, bone fishing, surfing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing and tubing.
Farm-to-Table Culinary
Baker’s Bay is especially focused on sustainably growing and sourcing its own produce and culinary ingredients, as it is not easy to procure them in the region. The property’s organic farm grows an array of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and that is how the community has facilitated a sustainable culinary program since its opening. Members can grow their own produce, and the culinary program uses ingredients grown on-site at the restaurants, making the decade-plus system the most viable source of fresh ingredients.
Real Estate
Like all Discovery Land Company communities, a prerequisite to club membership is an investment in property. In keeping with the relaxed, unburdened pace of life on these islands, Baker’s Bay offers some of the most picturesque real estate in all of the Caribbean – a true paradise to call home. Choose from the established, vibrant Marina Village; the serene beachfront estates on the Sea of Abaco; the beautiful and lively Atlantic Coast homesites; lush golf course residences; or the final phase of development, East Village.
Available to buyers, Discovery Design offers turnkey interior design that reflect clients’ individual personalities and the way they live. Taking pride in offering exceptional design with unparalleled customer service, the scope of services includes interior design, furniture procurement and foreign importation services. Clients benefit from working with a design consultant who is qualified to provide full services – from design to installation of the home.
Following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, the property has been rebuilt stronger and better than ever with the latest hurricane-proof infrastructure and most sought after amenities. The Discovery Land Company Foundation immediately went to work amid the devastation, creating a special fund – Abaco Relief – and hosting fundraisers that have since contributed to the distribution of food and vital goods, debris removal and construction of essential buildings like medical clinics and schools, among other much-needed services.
In addition to Baker’s Bay, US-based real estate developer and operator of private residential club communities and resorts Discovery Land Company has a domestic and international portfolio of 25 and counting, including El Dorado Golf & Beach Club in Los Cabos, Mexico; Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana; Silo Ridge Field Club in New York; Troubadour Golf & Field Club in Nashville, Tennessee; Driftwood Golf & Ranch Club in Austin, Texas; and CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club in Comporta, Portugal – the first European property.
