Exploring India's Golden Triangle

Are you planning your travels? If you’re looking for inspiration for your next trip, why not head to India? From its captivating architecture, rich culture and spiritual sites, India trips are a magical and unforgettable holiday.

The country’s Golden Triangle is the perfect place to start. Comprising the cities of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, this trio offers an eclectic mix that seamlessly blends ancient traditions and modern living. The Golden Triangle is a renowned route that attracts millions each year. Will you be among the visitors taking this well-worn path in 2024?

Delhi

Delhi is India’s capital and is a huge draw for visitors from across the globe. The city stands at the crossroads of time, as it echoes the blend of ancient empires with the contemporary.

Key landmarks include the towering Qutb Minar, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the south of the city that dates to the 13th century. There’s also the grand Red Fort and the historical Humayun's Tomb.

The stately India Gate, the city’s war memorial, is another iconic monument that you’ll come across during your travels. It’s also possible to visit the majestic Rashtrapati Bhavan, which is the official residence of the President of India.

For shopping, head to the market stalls of Chandni Chowk. These contrast with the modernity of Connaught Place, offering a full shopping and culinary experience.

Agra

Agra is immortalised by the Mughal Empire's monumental legacies. Perhaps the most iconic monument of this empire is the Taj Mahal. Built by Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal in the 1600s, it remains a symbol of eternal love.

As well as this must-see sight, there’s the Agra Fort and the elegant Itimad-ud-Daulah, which offer insights into the architectural genius of the Mughals. Agra's markets, meanwhile, are a treasure trove of traditional crafts, including intricate marble inlay work.

Jaipur

Jaipur is a showcase of Rajputana grandeur and intricate craftsmanship. Here, you’ll find the expansive Amer Fort and the ornate City Palace. Jaipur is also home to the stunning Hawa Mahal, which is built from striking red and pink sandstone.

It’s worth taking a trip to see the astronomical instruments at Jantar Mantar up close. The serene Jal Mahal, the so-called “Water Palace” is another beautiful attraction that sits in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake.

Planning the journey

If you’re planning your trip to India’s Golden Triangle, you’ll find that October to March offers the best weather across these three cities. A typical tour spans seven days on average, allowing for a deep dive into each city’s highlights.

If you're looking into India escorted tours, it’s worth taking the time to research some of the places you’ll see beforehand to get some insight into the culture you're likely to experience. However, you’ll have local guides on the tour who can tell you key details.
