Jason Faulkner - Bridging Architecture & Automotive Excellence
From an early age, Jason Faulkner was captivated by the world of automobiles, a passion cultivated by his father. Growing up surrounded by car culture, Faulkner regularly attended regional racing events with his father, where his love for motorsports took root. One transformative visit to a historic racing event at Road Atlanta at the age of 16 ignited a lifelong admiration for the iconic race cars he had previously seen only in magazines. That moment solidified a dream that would later shape his career.
Faulkner's educational path initially took him into architecture. After earning his master’s degree in 1996, he set his sights on a different passion—vintage racing, particularly Porsche 911s. His fascination with the evolution of racing models, from the classic 911 RSRs to the wide-body Turbo 935s featured in regional IMSA races, fueled his ambition to build and race his own Porsche.
Determined to make this dream a reality, Faulkner sought out the mentorship of Howard Cooke, a renowned Porsche mechanic in Jacksonville. Under Cooke’s guidance, Faulkner devoted five years to mastering the nuances of Porsche race car construction, learning everything from fabrication to electrical systems, transmission work, and engine building. All of this while balancing a grueling 55-hour workweek as a junior architect. His dedication paid off with the completion of a replica 1973 Porsche 911 RSR, which marked the beginning of an 18-year journey in vintage racing—often with his father by his side.
As the market for classic Porsches evolved, Faulkner and his father saw an opportunity to restore Porsche race cars and classic 911s for a growing number of clients. This led to the creation of Classic 9 Motorwerks, a company Faulkner founded to merge his expertise in architecture, design, and automotive engineering. The venture is dedicated to creating bespoke Porsche 911s that pay homage to Porsche’s storied motorsport heritage, all while meeting the demand for custom-built classic cars.
What sets Faulkner apart is his dual perspective as both an architect and a motorsport enthusiast. His deep understanding of design principles, material properties, and engineering techniques enables him to deliver vehicles that marry aesthetic excellence with precision craftsmanship. Each car created by Classic 9 Motorwerks is a testament to Faulkner’s holistic approach, blending the beauty of timeless design with the performance and engineering that enthusiasts crave.
Jason Faulkner’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and precision, with each project honoring the legacy of the Porsche 911 while pushing the boundaries of custom automotive craftsmanship. Follow Faulkner and Classic 9 Motorwerks at www.classic9motorwerks.com.
