Johnathan Schultz Gallery - Miami, Florida
Johnathan Schultz celebrated the opening of his Miami Gallery at a star-studded VIP launch party. Located in Miami’s creative and vibrant Design District the evening brought together VIP’s, friends and long-time supporters of Schultz’s work - surrounded by iconic and new, previously unseen works of art. Located at 4141 NE 2nd Avenue, the 3,000 sq.ft gallery is Schultz’s first permanent curated space in the United States.
Miami Heat’s Udonis Haslem took time out of Playoff preparations to kick-off the opening and receive a bespoke diamond and white gold commission from Schultz’s forthcoming GEM NFT project. Guests attending the opening preview included Miami Heat’s Glen Rice, Miami Dolphins Louis Oliver, NBA player Brent Wright, T.J. Sabo from Royal Palm Companies, Julie Anderson from Moet & Chandon, the Executive Team from the Miami Design District plus many more.
Miami’s Design District is a one-of-a-kind neighborhood that combines luxury shopping, galleries, museums, design stores, restaurants, and major art and design installations all within an architecturally significant context. This choice of location sits perfectly with Schultz’s stunning pieces, as a centre of rich culture and deserving of its place on the global stage.
The spacious gallery provides a blank canvas to house Schultz’s diverse body of work, all inspired by our elemental connection to earth’s precious materials – exploring human responses, relationships and boundaries. The versatile space will also host special exhibitions and events throughout the year, including Art Basel Miami 2022.
Works currently on display include:
Out of the Darkness - derived from Nelson Mandela’s fingerprints, this truly stunning art piece radiates with 9,225 diamonds set in 18 carat white gold weighing in at 895 carats. The Round Brilliant cut stones are Color G/H and Clarity VS plus, creating a captivating, alternative perspective on the remarkable legacy and story of South Africa’s first democratically elected President.
Refraction of a Legacy - standing at an imposing 10ft tall, this spectacular chandelier comprises five circular layers with cascades of diamonds. The diamonds themselves represent the hope and light we have in ourselves, with the structure signifying light breaking through the fence that once imprisoned others. The chandelier is constructed from metal fencing recovered from Robben Island, the maximum-security prison used in the Apartheid years and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
GEM Set - Originally formed as a physical creation in iconic paintings, sculptures, jewelry and accessories prior to being translated to the Metaverse, GEM has been created to be a representation of ourselves; a relatable character that can be whatever we want it to be. Unique yet familiar, GEM allows us to project our own emotions onto the gender-neutral figure – which will have endless variations using diverse materials and colors.
“I’m thrilled to open my first permanent gallery space in Miami, a diverse city that has been so welcoming to me and my work; the design district is a great fit – creativity and luxury is evident in all its forms providing a canvas of endless possibilities.” explains Schultz. “It’s the perfect environment to showcase all aspects of my work, both physical and digital, in one cohesive, curated space.”
Most recently Schultz joined the FTX Off The Grid, Miami Beach Weekend with GEM taking part in an immersive experience at the intersection of Crypto, Culture, and Cars. The three-day festival brought the thrill of racing onto South Beach with all-day entertainment including headline acts during F1 Week.
