When you are planning on proposing and getting engaged, this is a very exciting time of your life. There is nothing better than proposing and hearing your loved one say yes and knowing that you will be together forever. Then comes the planning stage of your wedding, which is very fun and deciding on where you are going to go on your honeymoon.
Getting engaged involves a certain level of planning. You will need to pick a location where you plan to ask the question. You will also need to pick an outfit for when you get down on one knee (you want to be wearing something nice) and you may need to get a ring size chart in, beforehand, so you can subtly find out your partner's ring size before asking them to marry you.
Below, we look more in-depth into our top tips when getting engaged.
Choosing your location
When the time comes to ask the question, you want it to be in a romantic space where it matches the occasion. The location should mean something to you both (such as the place you first met or your first date location). Make sure you pick a time when it isn’t too busy and plan for the unexpected, this way you have other options, should something not work out - for example, you plan to propose on a beach, but it’s raining.
Picking an outfit to wear
The rule of life is dress to impress, and this couldn’t be more important when it comes to proposing. When you are asking the big question, you want to be in something nice and presentable - the last thing your partner will want is for you to propose wearing a tracksuit! If you are hiring a photographer to capture the moment, having a nice outfit is even more important as it will be on camera.
Have a celebration venue for after
Once they say yes, what happens next? Make sure you have some plans put together for after the moment has happened. Book a nice restaurant for you to celebrate in or a bar, to have some drinks. If you want to get your friends and family involved, you could organise a surprise venue which you can arrive in after as a way to make the proposal extra special. Just make sure you have a nice bottle of wine or champagne to open!
There are so many tips that we could have included in our guide on getting engaged, but we think the top three are the most important (after you have gotten the engagement ring, of course). With a little more research, you’ll find a plethora of additional points which could be useful and can be used alongside ours.
